At FIRST CVC, we have been providing operational support and event offerings for CVC professionals. Through this, I realized that CVCs require unique skills and know-how beyond the essential tasks of sourcing and evaluating startups, such as business collaboration and the ability to navigate within organizations.
It was with this in mind that the idea for JAPAN CVC SUMMIT 2024 was born: a place where many CVC professionals could gather and share their expertise. Held on July 2, 2024, the event saw participation from over 200 companies and 400 people, marking the start of Japan's largest CVC conference.
The event focused solely on CVC-related content for the entire day! In the morning, 90 companies were divided into nine industries to share their investment strategies and case studies. In the afternoon, several CVC professionals took the stage for sessions, during which excellent case studies from the morning were presented, followed by awards.
This is an image from one of the breakout sessions, where each company presented for about five minutes and participated in a Q&A. Even within the same industry, there were voices saying that the approaches were completely different! It was a great opportunity for what are usually competitors to exchange various opinions.
In the afternoon's main session, many CVC representatives took the stage to discuss various themes related to practical operations and know-how. There are session reports available, so please take a look.
The Grand Prize for best case study was awarded to Marui Group Co., Ltd., while the Runner-Up Prize went to NTT Docomo Ventures.
The final networking session saw attendees gathered by their areas of interest, such as IoT and robotics, leading to cross-industry exchanges. Many said that one hour was too short!
The entire event was filled with energy from the participants, and we heard many enthusiastic comments like, "I will bring my boss next year" and "I will work hard to present a good case next year!" We plan to continue hosting this event, so thank you to everyone who supported us this year, and we look forward to your cooperation next year!
