Instructor Profile

Tetsujiro Nakagaki

Mr. Nakagaki joined Japan Asia Investment (JAIC) in 1996. In 2011, he established the DFJ JAIC Ventures (now dnx Ventures) as part of the North American venture capital firm DFJ’s network fund. He served as General Partner for three series funds, with a total fund size of approximately ¥60 billion. At dnx, in addition to investment activities, he also supports open innovation for corporate clients, especially investors. Under his leadership, 12 of his portfolio companies went public, and 6 were acquired by major corporations. Currently, he serves as an outside director for 4 companies, including SHIFT, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime market. He graduated from Waseda University’s Faculty of Law and completed the Kauffman Fellows Program, a venture capital training program in the U.S. He is also a co-author of "The Principles of Action for 'Pollinators' Accelerating Corporate Evolution: Startups × Traditional Companies".

Message from the Instructor

In recent years, companies ranging from traditional enterprises to emerging businesses have started Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) activities. Globally, the proportion of CVC/Corporate investment in total VC investment amounts and deals continues to grow. While many companies in Europe and the U.S. are using CVC to drive Corporate Development and Open Innovation, enhancing and maintaining their competitiveness, domestic companies have begun CVC activities but still have limited cases where they gain both financial and strategic returns. This CVC workshop is designed not only to understand VC activities but also to ensure CVCs function effectively in both financial and strategic terms. Therefore, we recommend that participants have basic knowledge or experience in VC operations. The goal of the workshop is not only to increase knowledge but also to create a community where participants share their challenges and experiences to enhance each other.

The theme will be 'Sourcing'.

 - What kind of investment strategy?
